Sauk Centre sophomore Madison Greenwaldt ran her way to the Class 1A state track and field meet after giving a terrific 1600 meter run performance at the Section 6A championships at Minnesota State University-Moorhead's Nemzek Field stadium. It's the first individual section track and field championship of her career. As a seventh grader in 2011, Greenwaldt was a member of Sauk Centre's section champion 4x800 relay team and state entrant.

Greenwaldt had a good 20 meter lead on a pack of runners who were competing for second place in the race. Her time was 5:36, roughly three seconds better than her previous season record. She will compete in the state 1600 run on Saturday, June 7 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
