The city of Belgrade invites everyone to come to town tonight and tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, to take in dozens of activities at the annual Belgrade August Fest celebration. To view the schedule, you are welcome to refer to the August 1 Mid-Minnesota Shopper which had Belgrade-area businesses sponsor a full page advertisement about August Fest.

The fun and family-friendly activities start on Friday with the Belgrade Firemen's chicken dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Belgrade V.F.W. Also at the V.F.W. will be two street dances on Friday night. The first, starting at 5:30 p.m., will feature music by "Music Store Junkies", while a street dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. will feature music by "Fixed Monday".

Saturday activities

Saturday is the main day of Belgrade August Fest activities, including a 5K Walk/Run (7:30 a.m. registration) at the B-B-E high school with a $20 entry fee. The Walk/Run will benefit the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Post Prom committee. Sand volleyball (8:30 a.m. registration) will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the city park.

The Belgrade Hardware Hank hardware store will have a sidewalk sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A quilt show is at the senior center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a car/tractor/pickup show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with trophies presented at about 2:30 p.m. The Crafters/Readers Club cookie sale with food stands operated by the B-B-E Cub Scouts will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Nursing Home Auxiliary.

At 10 a.m., a quilters demonstration will be held on the main stage on main street. The Kids Tractor Pull sponsored by the Belgrade Lions will be held south of Schaefer's Sales Barn at 11 a.m. The annual Toilet Bowl races will be held at the same location at 1 p.m. All sorts of kids games including inflatables, pony rides, train rides, a dunk tank and petting zoo sponsored by Belgrade Lions will run from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

From noon to midnight, the B-B-E Wrestling Club will operate a food stand by the Belgrade Meat Center. They will sell ribs from the rib-cooking contest as well as hamburgers, pork chops and more.

The Queen's Luncheon at the St. Francis de Sales parish center is at 1:30 p.m.

The hot dog eating contest, sponsored by the Belgrade Meat Center, will be at 2 p.m. on the main street stage. That will be followed by the Anderson Farms-sponsored Rib-Cooking contest at 2:30 p.m.

Greater Visions will have an Outdoor Photo Booth special from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a $10 photo session.

The kids parade is at 3:30 p.m. running from Belgrade Steel Tank to the V.F.W. Following that is the grand parade at 4 p.m. Following the parade, the B-B-E Jaycees will host a Bean Bag tournament in front of the Belgrade Post Office at 5:30 p.m.

Music by Norm Johnson will be on the main street stage from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and "Deep Fried Twisters" will provide the feature music from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in front of the Brothers Bar.

The B-B-E Community Park/Pool raffle will be held at 9 p.m. at the Brother's Bar.

The fun on Saturday concludes with a fire works show sponsored by the Belgrade Lions and Precocious Pyrotechnics, Inc.

A Dads Belgium Waffles feed will be held on Sunday at the V.F.W. from 8 a.m. to noon to benefit the B-B-E Boy Scouts.
