West Central Education District
Board Meeting Minutes
Date: January 26, 2017
Location: Sauk Centre District Office Board Room
Vice Chair Winkels called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and introduced new members Sarah Abel and Kris Winters. Members Storkamp, Abel and Winters were in attendance along with Superintendents Huot, Westby and Rich; WCED Director Fevig, Administrator McLellan and 3 WCED staff members.
Fevig requested adding Legal Counsel to the Agenda. Storkamp moved, Winters seconded to approve the agenda with the addition. Motion carried unopposed.
Under reorganization, through unanimous ballots, Don Winkels was approved for Board Chair, Lew Storkamp was approved for Vice Chair and Sarah Abel as approved for Treasurer/Clerk.
Also under re-organization, Storkamp moved, Abel seconded and the motion carried to continue with the Sauk Centre Herald as the official newspaper. MN National Bank was approved to continue as the Official Bank with a motion by Winters, second by Storkamp, motion carried unopposed. After some discussion regarding Legal Counsel, Winters motioned, Storkamp seconded switching to Rupp, Anderson, Squires & Waldspurger; motion carried unopposed. Annual memberships were reviewed; and after discussion, Abel moved, Winters seconded the continuation of annual memberships included in the report; motion carried unopposed. Also discussed were the board meeting dates/times for the rest of the school year. The board selected the 2nd Monday at 6:30pm for the regular board meetings in March, May. July meeting will stay at 7:30am at Cornerstone in Melrose.
Under reports, information was shared regarding enrollment at WCED programs; plans for Summer School programming; posting of the Special Education Supervisor position and brief update regarding the budget.
Under Old Business, Fevig presented the options for 1 or 3 year contract with BerganKDV. Storkamp moved, Winters seconded a 1 year contract; motion carried unopposed.
Next, under New Business, Fevig presented 2 maternity leave requests and the pay equity report. After some discussion, Winters moved, Abel seconded to approve the maternity leave for Jenny Nietfeld; motion carried unopposed. Abel moved, Storkamp seconded to approve the maternity leave for Katie Gottwald; motion carried unopposed. In regards to the pay equity report, the board chair signed the form and Winters moved, Abel seconded to approve the pay equity report; motion carried unopposed.
Under Consent Agenda, Storkamp moved, Abel seconded approval of the consent agenda including board minutes from November 21, 2016, balance sheet and Bills Payable #21453-21500. Motion carried.
Winkels adjourned the meeting at 6:47 p.m.
