Diane S. Baker

Diane S. Baker, age 70 of Sauk Centre, passed away after battling cancer on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at her sister’s home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Fr. Greg Paffel officiating and Fr. Kumar Sudhansu presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the upper gathering area at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Elwood Grove

Elwood Grove, age 98 left this world for his new life on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, from the Galeon in Osakis where he was a resident.
On Sept. 10, 1918, a son was born to Gilbert and Lydia Grove in Fortuna, N.D. They named him Elwood and he grew up and graduated from Fortuna High School in 1937. During WWII, Elwood served his country as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army. He served in the Guadal Canal, the Northern Solomons and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre campaigns. He received five overseas service bars, and was wounded twice in battle and awarded two Purple Hearts.
After returning from the war, Elwood worked for a few years in Hoffman, and then in Sauk Centre, as a gas station attendant. He then got a job in 1955 with Burlington Northern Railroad, working as a cook. He retired in 1982 after 27 years.

Prudence L. Johnson

Prudence L. Johnson, the daughter of William P. Arndt and Prudence G. (Gilbertson) Arndt, was born in Mason City, Iowa, on April 3, 1915. She was raised in Sauk Centre. She attended Sauk Centre Public Schools, and graduated from High School in 1933. She attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from Minnesota School of Business. She worked in the University Sports Department during the era of the “Golden Gophers” and later received a permanent position as private secretary with the Advertising Manager of the Green Giant Company in LeSueur, Minn. In 1940 she was married to Dr. Lyle T. Johnson, who practiced Dentistry in Sauk Centre.

Dr. Gary J. Hinnenkamp
Dr. Gary J. Hinnenkamp, age 61, of Sauk Centre, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 with his loving wife by his side at his home in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

LaDonna J. Wessel

LaDonna J. “Ladu” Wessel, age 64 of Sauk Centre, passed away Nov. 22, 2016, surrounded by family at her home in Sauk Centre.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Nov. 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Pastor Marty Porter officiating. Inurnment was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaDonna Jean Crain was born on Dec. 31, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo. She was adopted on Feb. 15, 1952, by Gilbert and Lena Crain. In 1975, LaDonna moved to Sauk Centre and she married Joe Wessel on Oct. 20, 1990, in St. Cloud. She was employed by Sauk Centre Public Schools for 31.5 years. From 1999 until her retirement in 2013, she was the secretary at Sauk Centre High School. Teenagers were her passion, and she had a love for them all.

Tim Austin, age 64 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Golden Valley, died unexpectedly early Nov. 21, 2016, at the Knute-Nelson Memorial Home where he was recovering from a surgery.

Daniel J.B. Hinnenkamp, 22 of Saint Cloud and formerly of Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at his Saint Cloud residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel presiding. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers were held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mary D. Shepherd

Mary D. Shepherd
Mary D. Shepherd, age 89 of Sauk Centre, and formerly of Shawnee, Okla., died peacefully Nov. 8, 2016, surrounded by her family at CentraCare Health Nursing Care Center in Sauk Centre.
Mary Donna Stell was born April 18, 1927, in Paris, Texas to H.W. and Rachel (James) Stell. She moved to Shawnee in 1933 and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1945. Mary attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. On Feb. 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Bill E. Shepherd. Mary was an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee, Okla.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Mary Shepherd of Sauk Centre; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Judith A. Clifft of Oklahoma City and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bill E. Shepherd; parents; and two brothers, Jerald Stell and Sidney Stell.

Sylverius F. “Syl” Rademacher, age 91 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Mitchell Bechtold presiding. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30-10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers were held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Elaine Margrete Koester

Elaine Margrete Koester
Elaine Margrete Koester, formally from Long Prairie, passed away quietly at the Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. on Oct. 15. She was 80 years old. Her husband, Donald Koester, of 63 years of marriage, was at her side both in marriage and her passing.
Born in Villard, Elaine grew up later on a farm in Sauk Centre. After attending high school, Elaine married Donald, who was starting his career in the U.S. Air Force. Both loved to travel and spent over twenty years sharing the many overseas and stateside tours of duty.
In 1973, Don and Elaine retired from the Air Force and briefly settled in Long Prairie before moving to Brainerd in 1982, until Don retired from his second career at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. From there they moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1995 until her passing.
Elaine never lost the unfailing desire to travel and meet new people and cultures.
