Two Ash Street residents opposed the council's decision to put a sidewalk on the west side of Ash Street as part of the 2008 reconstruction project.
Henry Herickhoff and Ray Karasch voiced their displeasure with the council's decision at Wednesday's city council meeting.
Herickhoff accused the council of lying to the residents of Ash Street.
"If there was a need (for a sidewalk) I would not be standing here complaining about it," Herickhoff said.
Herickhoff reminded the council they were presented with two petitions of Ash Street residents opposing the addition of sidewalks.
The project, which will cost approximately $1.1 million, is slated to begin in June. Initially, sidewalk construction was set to be assessed to the property owners. But the council has not made a final decision, and after voting to install all new sidewalks the length of Ash Street on both sides, has hinted at possibly picking up all the sidewalk costs.
Ray Karasch also spoke in opposition to the council's decision. Karasch told the council he felt his rights had been violated.
"The people voted you in to work for us, not for the engineer," Karasch said. "The engineer will fill his pockets. The engineer is the one who benefits from that sidewalk. When this is all said and done a lot of us will be broke, holding the bag and the engineer will be gone."
Karasch had to be asked to lower his voice by Mayor Brad Kirckof. The council did not comment on the sidewalk project at the meeting.
Thomas resigns as EMT
Longtime Sauk Centre EMT David Thomas resigned last Wednesday. Thomas had spent the past 14 years as an EMT and said he felt it was time to step down.
The Sauk Centre Ambulance Department currently has 17 EMTS on staff. Two people are currently taking classes to become EMT certified and will fill any void left by Thomas' resignation.
Monthly police report

The police department reported 134 verbal warnings, 12 thefts, 10 car accidents, nine speeding violations and four DUIs.
