Donald C. Scott, age 96, of Osakis, passed away peacefully Aug. 21, 2024, surrounded by family at the V.A. in St. Cloud.

Don was born in Garretson, South Dakota, Nov. 25, 1927, to Christ and Marie (Christiansen) Scott. Most of his youth was spent in Luverne. He came from a family of two brothers and nine sisters.

At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in WWII and then was called back for the Korean War. He served his country proudly as a Navy medic attached to a Marine infantry unit.

On Sept. 12, 1951, he married Carole Hansmann, of Sauk Centre. They made their home in Chanhassen, Norwood-Young America and retired in Osakis. Don and Carole loved to travel and spend their winters in their RV, traveling all over the United States. Don loved nature and conservation and was a true steward of the land — planting trees, making trails, watching the wildlife prosper.

Don is survived by his wife, Carole Scott; daughters, Brenda Scott, Cindi Hefferan (Jerry/Bob); sons, Don Scott Jr. (Sarah) and David (Julie) Scott; grandchildren, Blaise, Anna, Kayla, Cole and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Blaison, Barrett, Charlie and Arlo.

As per Don’s request, his body has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program for the advancement of medical education and research. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
