Dorothy J. Marker

Dorothy J. Marker, age 91 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Temperance Lakeridge Assisted Living in Sherburn. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church. Dorothy Jean Warrington was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Springfield, South Dakota to George and Helen (Figenbush) Warrington. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Arnold D. Marker on Aug. 12, 1962. They were blessed with two sons, Timothy and Thomas. As a family, they enjoyed raising and showing horses. Dorothy became a grade school teacher in South Dakota, while attending college and earning her teaching degree. Dorothy taught elementary school in South Dakota, Granite Falls and Sauk Centre for 36 years. She retired from teaching in 1992. Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. She taught Sunday school and was involved in many activities at church. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered for numerous events. She enjoyed being involved in her community by delivering Meals on Wheels to residence in the Sauk Centre area. In the summer, Dorothy spent her time gardening and visiting with her friends on the golf course. Dorothy loved being with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s activities. We have been blessed by many amazing memories. Cherishing her memory are her sons, Timothy (Laura) Marker of Jackson, and Thomas (Colleen) Marker of Burlington, Iowa; grandchildren, Emily, Danielle (Nicholas), John, and Rebecca; great-grandson, Benjamin; sister, Helen Wynia of Oakland, Nebraska; brother, Donny (Vicki) Warrington of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Marilyn Warrington of Springfield, South Dakota; and many special relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold Marker; sisters, Jana and Charolette; and brothers, Mervin and Allan. Blessed be the memory of Dorothy Marker. Arlene D. Bailey

Arlene D. Bailey, age 87 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre.  Visitation was from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Arlene Delores Wiener was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Sauk Centre to parents Mathias “Matt” and Esther (Quade) Wiener. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1953. On Nov. 12, 1953, she married Donald John Bailey at Zion Lutheran church in Sauk Centre. After serving his time in the Army, Donald, Arlene, and Jeanne moved to Fairview Farm in Ashley Township. They farmed together for many years.  Arlene was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.  She was involved in Ladies Aid, Rebekah’s Circle and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. In 1987, Arlene was a founding member of the Sauk Centre Area Historical Society.  She was a member for over 30 years and enjoyed doing research on the history of Sauk Centre and Stearns County. This included research for local author Ivy Hildebrand, who wrote “Sauk Centre: The Story of a Frontier Town,” and she proofread the book, “Tales From A Pioneer Town,” by Adrian Lee. She also gave tours of the Pioneer Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Arlene enjoyed cake decorating, calligraphy, perennial and rock gardens, antique collecting and playing the piano.  Other interests included loon counting for the State of Minnesota, theme planning for church Harvest Festivals, family geneology and organizing family reunions. She is survived by her children, Jeanne Massoletti, Jeffrey (Brenda) Bailey, Suzanne (Stan) Shefveland, Julie (Allen) Monroe and Gwen Bailey (Wayne Bitz); son-in-law, Peter (Susan) Laing; grandchildren, Danielle (Tim) Kelm, Jeremy Smelter, Jared (Karlee) Bailey, Justine Bailey, Katie Monroe, Brenna Monroe, Noah (Keira) Bitz, Joshua Bitz and Savannah Studniski; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Davis and James Kelm, Rozlyn and Korbyn Bailey; brother, Dwayne “Skeeter” Weiner; in-laws, James (Gloria) Bailey, Jane Bailey, Barbara Wiegers and Shirley Weiner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Bailey in 2009; daughter, Lisa Laing; parents, Mathias and Esther Wiener; infant grandson, Nathaneal Laing; granddaughter Laura Monroe; brothers, Arthur “Bud” Weiner and Merlin Weiner; sisters in-law, Glee Weiner, Alta Weiner, Lois Pischke and Martha Bailey; and brothers-in-law, Paul Pischke, Arthur Bailey, Haven Wiegers and David Bailey. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church and Sauk Centre History Museum and Research Center. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Smelter, Jared Bailey, Noah Bitz, Joshua Bitz, James Bailey Jr., and Glen Weiner. Crucifer will be Danielle Kelm. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Shefveland, Allen Monroe, Peter Laing, Greg Marthaler, Eric Marthaler and members of Rebekah Circle. Danny “Boone” L. Muzik

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids for Danny L. Muzik, age 69, who passed away Monday at Edenbrook Care Center in St. Cloud. Rev. Thomas Olson will officiate and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Thursday at the funeral home.  Danny was born Oct. 7, 1952, in Alexandria to Harvey and Rebecca (Baker) Muzik. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army. Danny lived most of his life in the Sauk Rapids area and worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, cooking, the Minnesota Twins and Patriot football, especially Tom Brady. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Danny was kind, had a great sense of humor and was proud of his daughter. Survivors include his daughter, Tamara Muzik (Peter Brunkow) of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Haley, Ben and Henry; sister-in-law, Darlene Muzik of Sartell; nephews, Jeffrey of Sartell and Jason of Woodbury; great-niece and great-nephews, Brady, Andrew and Addie; and step-sisters, Judy (Jim) Hathaway, Clare (Denny) Billig and Helen (Ed) Maier. Danny was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; and step-father, Osmund Barthel. Memorials are preferred to the Dementia or Alzheimer’s Association. Eugene “Gene” H. Ecklund

Eugene “Gene” Herman Ecklund went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2022, with his loving family at his side, at his home in Moorhead. Gene was born Nov. 6, 1932, the eldest of five children, to Carl and Mary (Ahrens) Ecklund in his grandfather’s farmhouse in Todd County. He was raised on their family farm and attended country school through eighth grade. He was drafted into the Army in 1953, and spent two years as a radio operator during the Korean War. After serving his country, he enrolled at Brown Institute in Minneapolis. His 35-year career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company began in 1955 in Jamestown, North Dakota, as a Central Office Technician and then Central Office Supervisor, followed by a transfer to Fargo as SCC Supervisor. He retired as the Manager of Switching Operations in 1980. Organizations he was involved with included being a founding member of the Jamestown Credit Union, Elks, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a Board Member of Ponderosa Golf Course, American Legion, as well as serving “Meals on Wheels.” Gene married the love of his life, his “flowerkraut,” Dorothy Emeline Niehaus, on Sept. 3, 1955, in Sauk Centre. They moved to Jamestown in November of 1955, where they proceeded to have a boatload of children. Gene was a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. He loved his family above all else. Gene had a very strong Catholic faith, and had numerous and varied interests including dancing, playing pinochle, hunting and fishing, golfing, leathercraft, woodcarving, reading, a nightly bowl of ice cream, and always – coffee. The pot was always on. He instilled in his family a love of crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.  Gene is survived by his children Steven (Catherine) Ecklund of St. Anthony, Kathleen (David) Rheault of Moorhead, Anne (James) Fiala of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Mark (Susan) Ecklund of Glyndon, James (Celeste) Ecklund of Coon Rapids, Jean Morlock of Moorhead, Denise (John) Silva of Collierville, Tennessee and Mary Beth Ecklund of Moorhead; 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren on the way; sister, Elaine Beste of Sauk Centre; brother, Raymond, of Eagle Bend; sisters-in-law, Germaine Tharaldson of New Brighton and Margaret Gaebel of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by Dorothy (Dort), his wife of 57 years; son, Scott; son-in-law, Paul Morlock; parents; mother- and father-in-law, Bernard and Martha (Freking) Niehaus; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Margaret (Lindback) Ecklund; brother-in-law, Rudy Beste; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Dick Zager; sister-in-law, Essie (Ilgen) Ecklund; and brothers-in-law, Robert Tharaldson, Harry Gaebel and LeRoy Johnson.  Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels – Moorhead, or Red River Valley Hospice.
